Troubleshooting a Pellet Stove Auger Motor

TROUBLESHOOTING

Q.) I reversed the motor, but now it just hums and won’t turn.

A.) Making sure the bearing shaft can spin freely will ensure the overall operation of the motor. Most likely something was not seated properly during reassembly, or one screw got over tightened compared to another causing an imbalance. Disassemble and verify bearing shaft is fully inserted into motor using a clockwise movement. Then ensure magnet is fully seated into posts on back of motor body. Then verify bearing cap is also fully seated. When installing last 2 screws in bearing cap, make sure they are tightened equally and not overtightened.

Q.) I received my motor, did not reverse it, but it hums and does not turn.

A.) It sounds like the motor took a good bump during shipping and the bearing shaft is hanging up on the bearing cap. Making sure the bearing shaft can spin freely ensures the overall operation of the motor. Remove the bearing cap by removing the 2 black screws, make sure the bearing shaft is fully seated, and reinstall the bearing cap. When reinstalling 2 screws in bearing cap, make sure they are tightened equally and not overtightened.
